live in present moment

Did you know that you can only live in the present moment? Nor past nor future. this article is not about why living in the present moment, but rather, how you live in the present moment.

As humans, our minds tend to live inside the head. We create inner worlds thinking about our past or future, over and over again.

The Inner World

As humans, our minds tend to live inside the head. We create inner worlds thinking about our past or future, over and over again. Our lasting thoughts contribute to create inner worlds based on our past and spill over into the present moment, but we are not in full awareness of the present moment of the outer world. This inner world tends to feel like reality, yet every person’s inner world is different from one another’s. We sometimes expect our inner world is real and that others see things in the same way. When we feel that others are not aligned with our inner world we think they are wrong. Distinguishing our inner world and putting less significance on it will help us to come to the present moment and connect with what is happening outside of the head.

The Outer World

The outer world, in contrast, is the real world. It is what is happening now – the events that are going on all around you. When you are mindful about your outer world, you can be happier in your daily life. In order to be mindful about the present moment, it is important to get your mind out of the inner world. Focus more on the present moment and what is happening right now. For example, when you eat, if you are not trapped in your head, you can have the most amazing tasting experience since you have a high awareness of the inputs.

Our 5 Inputs

We have a total of five inputs, which are sounds, visuals, taste, touch and smell. You can be fully aware of these inputs when you are not inside your head. To have the greater number of happy moments in your life, it is important to have full awareness of our inputs and get out of our inner thoughts. That is when you are fully living in the moment and enjoying all that life has to offer. Our worries are created in the inner world, so when we come out of the inner world, the power of our worries also decreases. When the power of worries is lessened we have the ability to enjoy a happier life. We can enjoy the life better and become more fulfilled by living in the present moment with mindfulness.

Mindfulness Meditation

There are many techniques to get out of the inner world. Mindfulness meditation is one of them. When you bring your focus to the basic practice of inhale and exhale, you can get out of the inner world. The mind needs something to latch onto. If we feel our thoughts, it keeps focusing on those thoughts. When this cycle begins, the best way to break it is by focusing the mind towards our inhale-exhale pattern. Then we are able to come back to the present outer world moment to focus on what is happening. Engage with awareness.

Physical Exercise

Another good way to break the inner world is a good workout, especially when you start sweating as your inner world disappears. Physical exercise could be sports, hiking, yoga, and so on. These types of activities will help to break the inner world, allowing us to be in the present moment with awareness of what is happening in the outer world.

Conclusion

If you would like to maximise your happiness, it is important to live in the present moment with awareness of the outer world. The first distinction to make is to ensure your awareness of the inner world and outer world. Once you understand that, you can deploy some techniques such as mindfulness meditation to get your mind out of the inner world. You might ask what is wrong with the inner world, which tends to take us to a state of negative energy. It drains our energy, which has a negative impact on our happiness and success in life. Therefore, it is important to always live in the present moment with mindfulness and enjoy life every day.
